Second Curriculum Development Workshop organized at Tbilisi State University, 25-27 October, 2012
The 2nd Curriculum Development Workshop within the project "Migration and Higher Education – Building Skills and Capacity" has taken place in Tbilisi State University from October 25th - 27th, 2012. The workshop was opened by Prof. Levan Aleksidze, TSU and Ms. Ilyana Derilova, the Chief of Mission, IOM Georgia. The curriculum development workshop was led by Dr. Lydia Potts and Ms Catharina Schmidt from the University of Oldenburg;

Academia from Yerevan State University, Russian-Armenia University, Khazar University, Qafqaz University, the Tbilisi State University (TSU) and the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA) worked on the development of the curriculum for Master’s degree program in migration. The main topics of discussion were the following issues: status quo of curriculum development at the six participating universities in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia; working in groups on joint introductory module followed by presentations from Alicia Blaya of the University of Alicante: “Migration and intercultural relations. Sociological analysis”, Lisa Heschl of Karl-Franzens University, Graz: “Europe as migratory space. The EU’s legal framework on migration” and Nino Gurgenidze, IOM Georgia: “Trafficking in Human Beings”.
The project is funded by the European Commission Tempus program and will result in launching Master’s Degree Programmes in Migration Studies in six universities of the South Caucasus countries in partnership with the four Universities from EU member states and the International Organization for Migration. The Programme will be operational as of 2013 academic year.
