Study visit to Austria for MCC staff Graz/Vienna 29th-31st October, 2012
The main objective of the study visit was to provide the staff of the Migration Competence Centers (MCCs) that have been established under the framework of the TEMPUS-UNIMIG Project at three Universities in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, with the insight into the working methods of specialized competence centers being integral parts of an institution of higher education.
The main objective of the study visit was to provide the staff of the Migration Competence Centers (MCCs) that have been established under the framework of the TEMPUS-UNIMIG Project at three Universities in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, with the insight into the working methods of specialized competence centers being integral parts of an institution of higher education. The participants had the possibility to get to know three competence centers at the Karl-Franzens University of Graz, Austria (www.wus-austria.org) : the Center for Southeast European Studies of the University of Graz, an interdisciplinary forum for teaching and research on Southeastern Europe (www.suedosteuropa.uni-graz.at) and the Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies Centre (www.uni-graz.at/reees/). Representatives explained the working structure, the methodology and the perspectives of their institutions and gave participants the possibility to learn more about the organization and functioning of such centers of excellence. The second day was dedicated to presentations concerning research methods and data analysis both by experts from the Institute of International Law of the University of Graz and the European Training and Research Centre for Human Rights and Democracy (www.etc-graz.at) . The visit also involved introducing the participants into the work of the European Migration Network (www.emn.at), its objectives, its methodology and how the resources could be used and adapted to the MCCs. The participants got an overview of the national IOM office in Vienna.
